Dear Cutter Morning Star Families,
We want to inform you about adjustments to our school calendar due to the snow days on January 9th, 10th, and 14th, 2025. Per our approved 2024-2025 calendar, we will be making up the missed instructional time as follows:
Monday, February 24th – School will be in session as a regular school day (not a Wednesday schedule).
Monday, March 10th – School will also be in session as a regular school day.
As an alternate calendar school, we track instructional time by hours rather than days. Arkansas law requires 1,068 instructional hours per year, and our calendar includes additional hours beyond this requirement. By utilizing February 24th, March 10th, and our built-in banked hours, we will meet the required instructional time.
Additional Makeup Day (If Needed):
If any further instructional time is lost (due to additional snow days or unforeseen closures), Monday, April 14th will be designated as a makeup day.
At the end of the school year, we will evaluate our total instructional hours. If we exceed the required hours, an early dismissal on the last day of school may be considered. However, this decision will not be finalized until the last week of school.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please plan accordingly for February 24th and March 10th as regular school days. Student attendance is expected.
Thank you for your support!

Cutter Morning Star School District will be closed on Thursday, January 9, 2025 due to severe weather conditions being forecasted. Safety is our top priority. Please be safe and keep warm.

Dear Parents, Students, and Families,
Good Afternoon,
We are closely monitoring the weather forecast as inclement winter weather is expected to arrive in Hot Springs on Thursday. Our team is consulting with the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), local county and city authorities, and surrounding school districts to stay updated on the situation.
Closing school is never an easy decision, as we always prioritize keeping students in classrooms learning. However, the safety of our students, families, faculty, and staff remains our top priority. We are committed to ensuring that all decisions are made with the utmost care and consideration for everyone’s well-being.
As the winter weather approaches, we will:
Maintain communication with DEM, county, and city officials, as well as superintendents from neighboring districts.
Conduct inspections of our bus routes to assess road conditions. Please note that Garland County's geography often results in varying weather conditions, with some areas experiencing significant accumulation while others remain clear.
Given the flexibility provided by state statute 6-10-126, districts can declare an emergency for inclement weather, which allows for adjustments such as early release at 1:00 p.m. or later and/or a delayed start before 10:00 a.m. Since we operate on an Alternate Calendar, we will calculate the number of minutes required to make up for any missed instructional time.
We understand the challenges families face when school schedules change. Therefore, we strive to make closure or schedule adjustment decisions as early as possible, ideally the night before. However, in some cases, final decisions can only be made early in the morning after assessing bus route conditions. All announcements will be on our social media accounts, district app, emails, and mass phone system so please make sure we have updated contact information.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate this situation. We are committed to providing timely updates and making the best decisions to ensure the safety of our school community.
